Seeing a vision come to life is the best part of our work here at A.O. Wagner Construction! The VRA site in Davenport is brimming with activity this month, marking a significant transition point for the campus.
As we wrap up the initial construction zone, we’re already moving dirt for the next exciting expansion.
Phase 1: The Gymnasium Is Nearly Complete
The finish line is in sight for Phase 1: our team is wrapping up the final few items on the new gymnasium, with full completion expected within the next week or two. It’s turning into an incredible facility for the students!
Subcontractors are currently installing the court striping, and the bold “Home of The Pride” lettering is being installed on the walls to instill a strong sense of school spirit.
Beyond the main court, the locker rooms, main entrance area, and a dedicated fitness activity room are all receiving their final touches.
Phase 2: Breaking Ground on New Learning Spaces
Even as we continue to polish the gym floors, we’re full steam ahead on Phase 2, which officially kicked off on January 5. This ambitious phase will take approximately one year to complete and will involve the construction of four new buildings to enhance the student experience.
The new additions include a cafeteria connected to the south side of the gymnasium and an Upper Learning Classroom (ULC) building. The ULC will serve as the academic home for middle and high school students, designed as a slightly smaller mirror image of the Phase 1 ELC building.
Sitting between these structures, a new covered play pavilion will provide a sheltered outdoor sports court for basketball and other activities.
Perhaps the most unique addition is the Skills Lab building. This facility will house two apartment-like spaces for the school’s transition program. This incredible space will enable students in grades 10 through 12 to develop independent living and career skills through practical, hands-on activities.
To tie these new structures together, we’re developing a central courtyard with turf and landscaping to create a harmonious campus environment.
