A precisely engineered steel canopy doesn’t leave room for error, especially when it has to accommodate the exact spacing requirements of an industrial saw. At UFP Industries‘ Tampa facility, that’s exactly the challenge A.O. Wagner Construction stepped up to deliver.
The finished structure spans 16 feet wide by 51 feet long, broken into three distinct bays: a 10-foot bay, a 30-foot bay, and a 9-foot bay, each sized to work around the saw’s specific clearance needs. From load in to final trim, the entire project wrapped in four days.
Setting the Steel Frame
The structural backbone of the canopy consists of five 8Wx18 red oxide steel columns and four 12Wx25 red oxide steel rafters. To anchor the columns securely, our crew drilled into the existing concrete and set the anchor bolts in epoxy (a method that creates a chemical bond between the fastener and the base material) locking everything in place against load and vibration.
With the columns set, the rafters went up and secondary framing followed using 14-gauge Z-purlins, which tie the rafters together and provide the attachment points for the roof panels.

Installing the Roof
For the roof, we installed 26-gauge galvalume R-panels. These are coated steel panels chosen for their corrosion resistance and long-term durability in an industrial environment. Where the new canopy meets the existing structure, we flashed the connection to seal out water intrusion, then finished the edges with new trim. Gutters and downspouts completed the drainage system.

The Finished Canopy
The result is a clean, functional canopy built to handle the demands of an active manufacturing floor. Every bay dimension, every anchor point, and every panel seam was accounted for before the first bolt was set.
