Sometimes, a construction project is just about fixing a building. But other times, it’s about protecting something fragile, beautiful, and important while you do that work.
We recently had the chance to do just that at a City of Avon Park building leased to Classic Caladiums.
Protecting Plants and Property: Project Background
If you know anything about caladiums, you probably already know that these colorful plants need specific conditions to stay gorgeous, namely warmth. That factor alone made this job a little more interesting (and involved!) than your standard warehouse repair.

The building serves as a storage and processing warehouse for Classic Caladiums, but it had seen better days. We were brought in to tackle some of the seriously corroded wall panels that were threatening the integrity of the structure. The tricky part was that we couldn’t just rip the walls off and leave the building open to the elements.
Instead, we had to replace the wall sheets more methodically, making sure the interior was never fully exposed to the weather. Losing that warmth just wasn’t an option for the plants inside, so we worked carefully to keep the temperature stable while swapping out the old metal for new.

How We Got It Done
In total, we replaced approximately 1,000 square feet of wall using new Rib 12 wall sheets. We didn’t stop there, though. We also replaced the walk door frame, the slab, and the hardware, and finished it all off with fresh door and base trim. To make sure everything stays put for the long haul, we used new long-life screws throughout the installation.
Once the walls were secure, we turned our attention to the ground. Water buildup had been an issue at the base of the old sheets, likely contributing to that corrosion we found.
To fix this, we poured a brand-new concrete curb running 95 feet long to keep water from pooling against the metal. We also relocated the downspouts to direct runoff well away from the building’s foundation.
The entire project took us just 10 days to complete, leaving the warehouse secure, dry, and ready to keep those caladiums happy for seasons to come.
