Procurement Building Extension Wraps Up at Local Theme Park

A brand-new addition is nearly ready to open its doors at the Procurement Building of a local theme park. Our A.O. Wagner crew has spent the last three months extending this existing pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) with a 40-foot by 40-foot addition, tying new construction seamlessly into the original structure.

Making Room for the New Addition

Before construction could begin, several conex units occupying the extension site needed to be relocated. A crane carefully lifted and moved each unit to clear the way for the new build.

Pouring New Concrete

With the site cleared, our crew demolished the existing concrete slab to make way for a new 4” slab. We also matched the column footers to support the new steel framing.

Raising the Steel

New steel columns were set on the fresh concrete slab, and our crew removed the existing exterior wall to tie the new steel framing directly into the existing building.

The new PEMB was manufactured by Whirlwind Steel buildings, and the extension carries a 16-foot eave to match the scale of the original structure. Whirlwind has been fabricating award winning custom metal buildings since 1955, offering a combined manufacturing capacity of over 500,000 square feet across their Texas and Georgia facilities and producing more than 150,000,000 pounds of steel products each year. That level of precision and consistency made them the right partner for adding this new steel structure into the existing PEMB.

The exterior of the new addition blends seamlessly with the original building, a testament to the careful planning that went into every step of this project.

Bringing the Interior to Life

Inside, the frame line between the existing building and the new extension took shape, with visqueen sheeting hung to keep dust from reaching the operational side of the building throughout construction. The facility remained fully functional during the entire process.

Framing, insulation, drywall, a new 5-ton HVAC system, and electrical work followed, rounding out the interior work on the extension.

With drywall installation and painting now complete, the interior has a clean, finished look ready for its next chapter.
