When you walk down 6th Street NW in Winter Haven, you might notice something a little different, and we’re not just talking about a fresh coat of paint.
A.O. Wagner Construction recently completed a major exterior renovation at the First Presbyterian Church, a project that targeted both visual improvements and structural upgrades.
This large project began during the summer of 2025. The latest phase of the project included demolishing and rebuilding the soup kitchen’s main entrance, applying new stucco finishes, installing energy-efficient storefront doors and windows, replacing the roof with a combination of TPO and metal systems, pouring new epoxy flooring, and upgrading the adjacent sidewalk and asphalt.
More Than Just a Facelift
The soup kitchen at 6th Street NW and Avenue H has long been a fixture of the church, serving the community every Saturday without fail since 2004. A.O. Wagner Construction demolished the original street-facing entrance and built a new, more accessible entry point.
Then, crews applied fresh stucco to the entire exterior, installed new energy-efficient storefront doors and windows, and poured epoxy flooring chosen for durability in high-traffic areas. The team replaced the existing roof with a combination TPO and metal system for weather resistance. The concrete work also included new sidewalk sections and upgraded asphalt at the front drive.
Strengthening the Youth Building
For the facade on the youth building, we installed eight brick columns, each measuring just under 20 feet tall, to give the youth building a durable and traditional appearance.
Between the columns, modern Berridge metal panels and smooth stucco sections were added for an updated exterior. The team finished the project with a new metal roof, custom aluminum awnings above entrances, and wall sconce lighting to improve visibility and security after dark.
