Our A.O. Wagner team recently upgraded the insulation and roofing of a mechanic shop for the Dundee Citrus Growers Association in Alturas, Fla. One of Florida’s largest citrus cooperatives, the Dundee CGA cultivates citrus from 10,000-plus acres while offering fresh blueberries and tree-ripened peaches.
We’ve previously worked on projects for the association, like a PEMB we started in 2023, including sitework and a building pad, that we wrapped up in 2024. Now let’s look at their current mechanic shop upgrade.
Improving Insulation for Better Efficiency
The wall panels were removed to enhance temperature control and energy efficiency, allowing R-10 vinyl-backed insulation to be installed. They were then reinstalled to maintain the structure while improving thermal performance.
Complete Roof Replacement for Longevity
Next, the existing roof was replaced with a new 26-gauge Galvalume metal roof, known for its strength and corrosion resistance. The process included installing R-10 vinyl-backed insulation beneath the roofing panels to enhance thermal performance and reduce heat transfer.
Project Upgrade Phases
Phase 1. Demolition and Insulation: Wall panels were removed, insulation was installed, and panels were reinstalled for a seamless finish.

We prepared for insulation installation by removing existing wall panels, ensuring a clean and efficient workspace for the upgrade.

Newly installed R-10 vinyl-backed insulation inside the building, shown with the original roof still in place.
Phase 2. Roofing Installation: The roof replacement was executed in two phases—one side at a time—to ensure structural integrity and efficiency.

Here’s a look at the new Galvalume roof installation in progress. The right side is fully sheeted, while the left side awaits receiving insulation and 26-gauge roof panel installation.
Phase 3. Ventilation Upgrades: Existing ventilators were reinstalled to maintain airflow, and a new hood cover was added over the exhaust fan for improved ventilation.

The new metal roof is fully installed, with existing ventilators reinstalled to maintain proper airflow and ventilation.

A newly installed hood cover over the existing exhaust fan enhances ventilation efficiency and durability.
Final Results and Project Timeline
Completed in 10 days, the upgraded mechanics shop features improved insulation and a durable metal roof for better efficiency and comfort.
