When you need more space to craft great beer, you build up…and out. A.O. Wagner is currently leading phase one of a major expansion at the Florida Brewery in Auburndale. The primary focus right now is on constructing a top-tier Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) manufactured by Nucor Building Systems. Nucor designs these custom structures to hit the sweet spot of functionality and long-term value.
Expansion Details: More Space and Modern Features
This expansion gives the brewery serious room to grow. We’re putting together a new two-story, 7,100-square-foot building tailored for their operational and administrative teams. Once finished, this space will hold modern offices, conference rooms, restrooms, and breakrooms for the staff.
Right next door, we’re adding a 4,800-square-foot production area. This extra footprint means the brewery gets more space for new equipment, vastly improving workflow and bumping up their overall brewing capacity.
We’re making rapid progress on the frame. Our crew erected the main columns, installed the wall girts, and placed the roof purlins. You can already spot the black vinyl back insulation in the roof and the crisp white insulation lining the walls.
We also framed and trimmed the openings for the storefront entrance and windows.
Connecting Old and New
Connecting a new structure to an older one takes precision, so to tie the existing building to the new PEMB, we installed a custom stainless-steel valley gutter. This setup smoothly diverts rainwater between the two structures. Over in the manufacturing section, rough plumbing for the bathrooms is already in the ground.
What’s next on the schedule? We’re gearing up to finish installing the roof sheets, which means getting every panel in place and secured for lasting protection against Florida weather.
After the roof is buttoned up, we’ll turn to framing out a large opening for an overhead door, which is a must-have for moving equipment in and out of the production area.
Once the shell is secure, we’ll begin installing the steel mezzanine on the second floor. This mezzanine will add valuable working space and open up options for future growth. You can expect steady progress in the next two weeks as each of these key pieces comes together!
