A.O. Wagner’s Roofing Pros Are Hard at Work in Central Florida

The roofing professionals here at A.O. Wagner stay incredibly busy keeping new and returning clients happy, so we decided to feature some of the latest work in this week’s project build blog.

Clark Tire in Winter Garden

The first project in Winter Garden was to replace an old, leaky pea gravel roof for Clark Tire. Pea gravel is an older roofing material, also known as a tar and gravel roof. While pea gravel was common in older construction, it’s not used much these days for a number of reasons.

For one, pea gravel roofs are heavy. Because it requires layers of tar, supporting fabrics, and gravel, it can add 5 to 10 lbs per square inch to the weight of the roof. And, because you can only see the top gravel layer, it’s difficult to find the source of leaks and perform maintenance. Worse, the gravel layer and the roof in general break down over time due to UV rays and other factors.

Above, you can see the old pea gravel roof before it was replaced.

And here, you can see how it looks after we finished the project. We went in and removed the old roofing material and replaced it with 1-inch insulation and modern thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) material. The whole project took two days to complete.

251 Cloverdale Rd. in Winter Haven

For the second project, we replaced the roof on a home at 251 Cloverdale Rd. in Winter Haven. The old roof had suffered some wind damage. We went in and removed the old shingles and replaced them with new Atlas brand asphalt shingles with a 15 year select warranty. We chose asphalt shingles due to the number of benefits they provide. For one, they’re readily available, easy to install, and affordable. Plus, asphalt shingles are naturally fire resistant. Asphalt shingles can also be given other properties, like resisting algae growth or providing enhanced resistance to hail.

Here, you can see the state of the roof before we began the project. Damage to the shingles can be seen clearly.

And here, you can see the finished project with the new shingles. We went in, removed the old shingles, and replaced them with the new ones. The project took about one day to complete.
